Receive a calendar RSS or Atom feed

When you subscribe to the calendar's RSS or Atom feed, calendar updates come to you. You can easily subscribe from your news reader program.

What are RSS and Atom feeds?

  1. On the calendar, click Subscribe.
  1. On the Subscribe page, click the RSS or XML button.
  • If you use Safari, the feed displays right in the browser.
  • If you use Internet Explorer or Firefox and click one of the buttons, the code shows for your calendar, and you can copy/paste the URL into your news reader.

Firefox may not be able to display the Atom feed. If that's the case, you can get the URL from the RSS feed, and after you paste the URL into your reader, replace .rss with .xml.

What are RSS and Atom feeds?

RSS and Atom are types of XML code used to feed ever-changing news or other data to you. You view and subscribe to feeds from a program called an RSS or news reader or aggregator. In your reader, you can collect the feeds from the sites you're interested in, so you can keep up-to-date without having to remember where the sites are or navigate all over the Web to get the information.

Tip Programs that read RSS or Atom feeds are available free on the Web. To find out about a few of them, you might start by searching the Web for "rss reader."

Many feed readers treat RSS and Atom feeds the same way. However, Atom feeds use XML namespaces, which help in developing applications with web syndication feeds. For a brief overview of the differences, try the Atom Compared to RSS 2.0 section of the Atom page in the Wikipedia.
